Middle school foundations
Build the foundation that carries through calculus.
Sixth through eighth grade is where math either becomes a lifelong strength or a lifelong struggle. Believe's Foundations program is designed for the middle school student who needs the mechanics to become second nature, before they meet Algebra 2, before AP Calculus, before college math.
What the program covers
- Pre-algebra fluency: fractions, decimals, ratios, percentages
- Algebraic thinking: variables, expressions, equations
- Geometry foundations: angles, area, volume, coordinate plane
- Problem-solving discipline: reading a word problem, extracting what's being asked, choosing a method
- Study habits: how to know when you actually understand something, not just when you got the right answer
Structure
- Format: Small group of up to 4 students, grouped by grade and pace
- Cadence: Two 60-minute sessions per week
- Alignment: Follows the FUSD adopted textbook, supplemented with problem-solving sets
- Progress: Weekly homework, monthly diagnostic check, quarterly parent report
